MARE Talks - How does a photography competition work?

There is hardly a photographer who has not entered a photography competition at some point.

Our photographs are something we feel proud of and, for that reason, we take every opportunity to show them off. Social media, websites and portfolio reviews are spaces where we show others how we see the world around us.

And then there are competitions —and contests— where, in addition to recognition, you can also win a prize.

But competitions can also be a huge source of frustration. Why didn’t I win? Did that photo really win? Mine was much better!

Winning a competition, or being shortlisted, does not always depend on how good the photograph is. Very often, it depends more on whether it meets the conditions set out in the rules or, quite simply, on whether the jury likes it.

With this in mind, AFONIB, Foto Ruano and MARE are organising this talk to help you better understand how a photography competition works and enjoy the experience more the next time you enter one.

Speakers:

Abraham Calero (MARE)

Xavier Llabrés (MEMORIAL CLIMENT PICORNELL)

Tomeu Santandreu (participant)

Free event, subject to venue capacity.
